Vietnam's Prime Minister Urges the U.S. to Lift Certain High-Tech Export Restrictions
Forex - Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh called on the United States to lift export restrictions on certain technologies and stated that the country wishes to develop its satellite communication.
Speaking at an event organized by the American Chamber of Commerce, Chinh also mentioned that the two countries should maintain their good relations and collaborate to promote multilateralism in overcoming global challenges.
He did not reference potential U.S. tariffs on Vietnam despite the Trump administration's threat of tariffs up to 20% on all imports. Vietnam is a significant exporter to the U.S. and has a large trade surplus with Washington.
In his remarks at the conference, Chinh said, "We hope the U.S. will lift the embargo it has imposed on Vietnam for certain technologies. We're not at war with anyone, so why maintain the embargo?"
