Turkey to Greet 2025 with New Price Increases

As 2025 approaches, citizens will face a series of new tax increases and regulations, which also include fees for purchases and travel from abroad.

The duty-free shopping limit has once again been reduced. Under the new regulations, the upper limit for duty-free shopping from abroad has been changed to "30 euros including shipping costs" instead of the previous limit of 30 euros. This amount was recently set at 150 euros. This change means greater control and costs for goods and services brought from abroad to Turkey. Consumers making online purchases in Turkey will need to plan according to this new limit. The reduction of the duty-free shopping limit makes careful budget planning mandatory, especially for those who prefer shopping from foreign online platforms.

The mobile phone duty has seen a significant increase. By 2025, the duty on mobile phones brought from abroad has been raised from 31,692 lira to 45,614 lira. This increase will prompt those considering bringing devices from abroad to reevaluate their cost calculations. When assessed along with rising exchange rates and mobile phone prices, the announced increase will impose a significant financial burden regarding mobile phone procurement.

Passport fees have also been significantly increased as part of the new year adjustments. The fee for a 6-month passport has risen to 2,359 lira, compared to 1,639 lira in 2024. The fee for a 1-year passport has only increased by 27 lira, now standing at 2,424 lira. The 2-year passport fee has shown a substantial increase from 3,923 lira to 5,630 lira. The fee for a 3-year passport has nearly doubled to 9,999 lira. A serious rise has also been observed in the fee for a 10-year passport; it has increased to 11,274 lira from the previous year’s figure of 7,833 lira. Increases in passport expenses will represent a significant cost factor for traveling citizens.

Additionally, the passport booklet fee has also increased. The fee, which was 790 lira in 2024, has risen to 1,137 lira for 2025. Citizens planning to renew or apply for a passport for the first time will need to allocate a higher budget due to this change. The increase in the booklet fee impacts the total passport cost, further increasing the travel expenses that are already rising. This creates a new cost item for citizens planning trips abroad to consider.
