Gazprom Prepares to Halt Gas Deliveries to Europe via Ukraine
According to informed sources regarding Gazprom's plans, Russia's basic scenario for the upcoming year anticipates a complete halt to gas transit through Ukraine.
With the termination of transit gas flows through Ukraine, it is expected that exports of Russian gas to "distant" markets (Europe and Turkey), which are over 49 billion cubic meters in 2024, will decrease by 20% to fall below 39 billion cubic meters in 2025.
The transit gas agreement between Russia and Ukraine will expire on December 31. The Ukrainian government is not engaged in official negotiations to extend the transit of Russian gas following the expiration of the current agreement.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev expressed confidence in the outcome of potential negotiations between Russia and Ukraine to ensure the continued supply of Russian gas through Ukrainian territory to some European countries.
Ukraine has no intention of extending the gas transit agreement with Russia, which will expire at the end of 2024. However, it is open to discussions about the transit of gas from other suppliers through its gas transmission system if requested by Europe.
