BKM: In October, 1.63 billion card payment transactions worth 1.49 trillion TL were conducted

In October, a total of 1.63 billion card payment transactions amounting to 1.49 trillion TL were recorded. According to a statement from the Interbank Card Center, 4 out of every 5 card payments made in-store were contactless, while the amount of online card payments reached 432.1 billion TL, reflecting an 82% increase compared to the same period last year.

The statement noted: "As of October, the number of credit cards in Turkey reached 127.8 million, the number of debit cards reached 193.1 million, and the number of prepaid cards reached 109.5 million. Compared to October 2023, there was a 12% increase in the number of credit cards, a 4% increase in the number of debit cards, and a 28% increase in the number of prepaid cards. The total number of cards reached 430.4 million, showing a 12% increase compared to the same period last year.

The total payment amount made with credit cards, debit cards, and prepaid cards in October increased by 78% compared to the same period last year, amounting to 1,488.0 billion TL. Of the card payments, 1,252.6 billion TL were made with credit cards, 204.8 billion TL with debit cards, and 30.6 billion TL with prepaid cards.

The growth rate of payments made with credit cards compared to the same period last year was 83%, while for debit card transactions it was 49%, and for prepaid card payments, it was 97%. The number of total payment transactions made in October with credit cards, debit cards, and prepaid cards increased by 12% compared to the same period last year, reaching 1.63 billion transactions.

Of the card payments, 924.0 million were made with credit cards, 575.5 million with debit cards, and 127.7 million with prepaid cards. The growth rate of transactions made with credit cards compared to the same period last year was 16%, and for debit cards, it was 5%, while for prepaid cards, it was 27%.

Online card payments increased by 82% compared to the same period last year, reaching 432.1 billion TL. The share of online card payments in total payments was 29%. The number of online card payment transactions increased by 12% compared to the same period last year, reaching 236.5 million transactions. The share of online card payments in total payments is 15%.

The number of contactless payments made with cards increased by 20% compared to the same period last year, reaching 1,079.2 million transactions. The total contactless payment amount increased by 93% compared to the same period last year, reaching 472.6 billion TL. In October, 4 out of every 5 in-store card payments were contactless."
